Rare quality sets are pretty much only for your first day exploring, so we won't go into detail there. Epic quality sets break down into these types:
DPSPVE General DPS Recommendation: Barbarian x2 PVP General DPS Recommendation: Goblin Brawler x2 For Dauntless comps, Predator is your go-to. Meanwhile, Assassin Technique is the top pick for Poison comps and heroes who mostly dish out Proficiency damage.
TanksTanks that apply debuffs: Go with Granite Will + Deer Herder's Heart or Swift Shadow. General tank setup: Use Granite Will x2
SupportSupport heroes that need to apply debuffs: Choose Swift Shadow x2, or you can swap in Goblin Brawler once their Effect Hit is high enough. Healing support heroes that need Proficiency: Stick with Blessing x2.
Attributes and Early Equipment FarmingEquipment comes in four types: Weapon, Helmet, Gloves, and Armor. Weapons and Helmets always have fixed primary attributes. Early on, you can just enhance and use them as soon as you get them. Good secondary attributes are a bonus, but not a dealbreaker.
Pay close attention to Gloves and Armor, though, because their primary attributes are random. You might get the right set type, but with primary attributes you don't actually want. In those cases, prioritize the attributes over the set bonuses. For example, if your main DPS has two Barbarian sets, but the Armor has Effect Resistance as its primary attribute (which is useless for a DPS), it's better to use Armor from a different set that actually has ATK% as its primary attribute.
Attribute Priority:General DPS: ATK% > Crit Rate (until 100%) > Crit Damage > ATK Proficiency-based DPS: Proficiency > ATK% > ATK Utility Support DPS: Hit Rate (until effect threshold) > ATK% > ATK Proficiency-based Recovery Support: Proficiency > HP% > HP > DEF% > DEF Debuff Defense Tank: Hit Rate (until effect threshold) > DEF% > DEF > HP% > HP Debuff HP Tank: Hit Rate (until effect threshold) > HP% > HP > DEF% > DEF Non-Proficiency Support: HP% > HP > DEF% > DEF The attribute rankings above work for most situations, but some special heroes need tweaks depending on your team. Take Vicuc, for example: as a healer, he doesn't really need to stack Proficiency, so he should focus on boosting his HP. However, since his skills can hit enemies with Effect Hit Reduction and Attack Penalty, you should aim to reach the Effect Hit threshold before boosting the HP.

Advanced EquipmentAfter the early game exploration, you'll unlock more diverse set bonus mechanics, specifically the three-piece and one-piece set effects.
