Hello, this is SQUID. Today, I am presenting a guide to talk you through Pillar of Dark F0 to F60.

This guide will be split into 3 parts.
  1) An introduction to the rules, rewards, and stages of the Pillar of Trial.
  2) An introduction to lineup-building strategies and some recommended characters and lineups.
  3) An analysis of combat positioning and boss fight gameplay strategies.
  4) Lastly, a summary of this guide.

  I. The Rules, Rewards, and Stages
  1. Rules

There are 5 things to keep in mind here:
① You must meet certain requirements before you can play Pillar of Trial.
② Pillar of Trial offers 3 Elemental combos—Ice & Radiance, Fire & Necrosis, and Poison & Lightning. Only heroes associated with the same Elements can play this game mode. For example, Fire and Necrosis heroes can only play Pillar of Dark.
③ Playing Pillar of Trial doesn't cost Stamina.
④ You can replay Pillar of Trial as many times as you'd like, but the rewards of each tier are available one time only.
⑤ You can claim duplicate rewards from the same floor of different Pillars of Trial. A higher floor yields better rewards.

  2. Rewards

Each floor in Pillars of Trial yields rewards after you complete it. The rewards come in various types. Usually, they are hero growth materials, such as EXP, Artifact enhancement materials, and gear crafting materials. For every 30 floors completed, the player receives a Heliote Dice.

When you have completed 60 floors, you'll receive the Epic hero, Kyrza.

When you have completed 180 floors in Pillars of Trial, you'll receive a Legendary Artifact.

  3. Stages
There are 3 types of Pillars of Trial, each with 6 boss fights and 54 minion stages. Each minion stage is divided into 3 sessions, each session having 4 to 5 minions. Generally, these 3 sessions will have 5+4+5 or 5+5+5 minions. As for the boss fights, they happen on F10, F20, F30, F40, F50, and F60. The boss fights are the main focus of this article. Here are the skills of those bosses and their summoned units.

  Boss:
① The boss's basic attacks have a 30% chance to inflict Fear, rendering the target unable to use their basic attacks or skills.
② Dealing Necrotic Damage to enemies in the range has a 50% chance to inflict Fear.
③ Deals Necrotic Damage to all your heroes and adds 30% ATK to the Necrosis Element.
④ Becomes immune to all control effects.
  Necrosis Element:
Deals massive Necrotic Damage to your heroes.

  II. Recommended Lineups and Builds
Based on the information mentioned above, we'll break down the monsters and boss skills in Pillars of Trial. Also, we'll talk about how we can configure our lineups according to the stage difficulties. It is best that our lineups have these few things below:
① Support or defensive heroes that have great survivability, which means heroes who can grant Shield to all allies, increase their DEF, or heal them.
② Heroes who can deal massive AoE damage. As you climb to higher floors, the difficulty rises. The longer a battle lasts, the more likely your heroes will die, so try to deploy heroes who can deal massive AoE damage to handle minion stages. This way, you can finish battles a lot faster.
④ Heroes that can inflict control effects on multiple enemies. Similarly, while in a minion stage, if you have a back-row hero who can inflict AoE control effects, the front-row DPS heroes will have a much better chance of surviving and sticking on the battlefield.
⑤ Deploy back-row supports or front-row tanks that can dispel debuffs because the enemies will frequently inflict debuffs such as Stun, Displacement, and Control on your heroes. All heroes with the ability to dispel debuffs can effectively handle any unexpected situation on the battlefield, preventing your heroes from dying.

Though a support, Huldork deals almost as much damage as a legendary DPS hero can do. This is especially true considering the control effects coming from Huldork's ultimate skill. Basically, Huldork counters all melee enemies, which can significantly alleviate the pressure put on your tanks. Adolphus's ultimate skill can grant Shield to allies even better than the ultimate skill of Felosia, a legendary hero. That's very nice!

  Available substitutes:

Next, I'll recommend the DPS heroes to you. As you climb the floors, the difficulty gets higher more and more quickly, so you'll find that these heroes are of higher rarities.

Before you reach F31 in Pillars of Trial, the difficulty is about the same. After that, the difficulty starts rising drastically. Personally, I'd rework my team build starting from F31.

F1 to F40 Recommended DPS Heroes
  Burn:

  Necrosis:

  ② F41 to F50 Recommended DPS Heroes
  Burning:
You can replace any two epic heroes with Karf.

  Necrosis:

Necrosis DPS heroes more heavily rely on their Summoned Units, and these Summoned Units rely on buffs and bonuses, which is what Irzillas does best.

  ③ F51 to F60 Recommended DPS Heroes
  Burning:

Any Burn build is centered around Aschetius, its key hero, as he deals a ton of AoE damage and single-target damage. When you find it difficult to push through the minions and bosses from F51 to F60, that's when you can send Aschetius into combat.

  Necrosis:

III. Minion Fight Positioning and Boss Fight Strategies
  1. Minion Fight
When fighting minions, you usually deploy 1 tank, 1 support, and 3 DPS heroes. If you find the minions harder to deal with or you notice that the enemies excel in dealing burst damage or inflicting control effects, you can consider adjusting your lineup and deploying 2 tanks or 2 supports but always remember to deploy at least 2 DPS heroes.
Here's how you can position your heroes in a minion fight and how you can tackle some of the less common situations.

Usually, you'll have a main tank on the first row, tanking the first round of attacks coming from the enemy heroes. As for your melee DPS heroes such as Aschetius, you can put him on the 2nd row or 3rd row so you can somewhat keep your melee DPS heroes safe and prevent them from dying during the first round of incoming attacks.
Huldork's ultimate skill only stuns enemies that are not more than 3 tiles away from him, so you must place Huldork on the 2nd or 3rd row. This way, you can make sure the enemy heroes on the first row are constantly stunned, which can then keep your front-row heroes healthy.
In some stages, you'll encounter the two heroes below, which can put pressure on your team. See the image below:

Quaesitia's battle skill will pull the farthest hero to the tile directly next to her, making that hero very easy to kill. Here's how you can counter Quaesitia:
① Help back-row heroes stack and get at least 250 Resistance, but even so, you will inevitably lose some DPS heroes.
② Adjust the positioning so your support heroes stay as far away from Quaesitia as possible. Also, get their Resistance to 250.
③ Inflict control effects on Quaesitia or kill her altogether before she uses her 2nd battle skill.

Premtsa can deal massive damage with her ultimate skill, and there is also DoT. Here's how you can react:
① Reserve your defensive ultimate skills until Premtsa has used her ultimate skill so you can neutralize most of the incoming damage.
② Use control heroes or Quaesitia to inflict Displacement on Premtsa, pulling her close and stunning her before killing this enemy.
You can adjust the positioning like this:

  2. Boss Fight

The boss will frequently inflict control effects, so you must finish the fight as fast as you can. The 2 Necrosis Elements can inflict tons of damage on your heroes, so it is best to prioritize killing one of them first, so you can put all your DPS heroes on the same side to start the battle. Also, in this boss fight, I recommend you manually use the ultimate skills to handle the boss's 3rd skill, which can deal lots of damage to your heroes, and you'll need a defensive ultimate skill to neutralize that.
The boss and the Necrosis Elements have low DEF, so only 2 DPS heroes will suffice in this boss fight. As for the 3rd character slot, you can deploy a tank or a defensive/control support, which can prove beneficial as such heroes can help you clear the first 2 minion fights and better survive the boss fight.

  IV. Summary
I'd say the most important thing is survival when it comes to Pillar of Dark. This is because the enemy minions will inflict lots of control effects and AoE damage, and each stage has a 5-minute timer. As long as you have the right DPS heroes deployed, you won't have to worry about running out of time. So, for the AoE Aura, I recommend you use a defensive Aura such as AoE HP Boost or AoE DEF Boost.

The Fire build has two branches, Burn and Wild. In this challenge, I didn't go with Wild because Wild relies on RNG checks too much, and it deals less AoE damage than a Burn build. Provided the cost of creating a build is the same, a Burn build will prove more useful. Also, Aschetius' ultimate skill can clear out all the minions on the field, which can bring you a satisfying gaming experience. The downside is that a Burn build overly relies on Aschetius's ultimate skill, rendering every other Burn character an enabler for Aschetius, including Karf.

Among the Summon heroes, Premtsa is one of the more useful ones as she can deal massive direct damage and provide support effects. With Premtsa on the team, things become much easier, but she isn't indispensable. If you have Irzillas and other Summon heroes, you too can dish out a significant amount of damage.

When comparing these two builds, we see that the Burn build is better at dealing burst damage, while the Necrosis build excels in keeping enemies under control.

That's about this for this journey. I will be bringing you more guides on the other Pillar of Trial, so stay tuned!
